Biography

Michael M. Heimlich

​

     Michael was born in Marion, Ohio and grew up in the small town of Prospect.  He graduated from The Ohio State University in 1981, receiving his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration.  Michael attended Ohio Northern University's Pettit College of Law receiving his J.D. in 1984. As a Captain in the United States Marine Corps, Michael served proudly while stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Quantico, Virginia and the U.S. Naval Station at Newport, Rhode Island.  Following his three and one half years as a Marine Corps Judge Advocate, Michael entered private practice focusing primarily on personal injury, product liability and insurance litigation.  He is a former Partner in the insurance defense firm, Carpenter, Paffenbarger, McGimpsey and Lux. He also served as Managing Attorney of the Columbus office of Baran, Piper, Tarkowsky and Fitzgerald for nearly ten years, after which he established his own practice in January 2000.

     Michael’s experience as a lawyer encompasses all phases of the courtroom, from simple soft tissue cases to complex litigation involving traumatic brain injury, quadriplegia, intellectual property and complicated business disputes. His experience also includes multiple appearances in the state and federal appellate courts. In most instances he served as sole or lead counsel.  

     Michael has worked extensively with law enforcement and other governmental agencies in matters involving use of force, civil rights claims, employment discrimination, sexual harassment and cases centered on construction and engineering. Litigation and negotiating skills have also proven valuable in representing clients in all facets of business.  This experience includes routine contract and employment matters as well as those involving patent, trademark and other intellectual property litigation.  Michael also has vast experience in mediation and other types of alternative dispute resolution.

     Michael is licensed in the State of Ohio as well as in The Federal District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, The Federal District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, The United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. Michael is a member of the Ohio State and Delaware County Bar Associations as well as numerous other professional associations and organizations and has been a frequent lecturer on trial tactics and developments in the law.
